Lakeland’s royal flock of Swans undergoes comprehensive health exams

The 46th Annual Swan Roundup at Lake Morton moves into its second day on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, as Lakeland’s royal flock undergoes comprehensive health exams on the lake’s south shore.

Following Tuesday morning’s collection by the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Department, the swans spent the night in holding pens to prepare for veterinary care.

What Happens During the Wellness Exams

  • Comprehensive Physicals: Veterinarians from My Pet’s Animal Hospital examine each bird individually to inspect physical condition, check for injuries, treat minor ailments, and weigh each swan.
  • Microchipping Cygnets: Young swans born over the past year are fitted with microchips to monitor the flock’s growth and lineage.
  • Flock Health Tracking: The team administers deworming and routine preventive treatments to support long-term health across the population.
  • Immediate Release: Once the medical team clears them, the swans are promptly released back onto Lake Morton.
