Lakeland native Sophia Huneycutt is returning to her hometown to discuss her atmospheric Southern Gothic debut novel, The House Built on Alligator Bones.

Her book—which officially released on October 6, 2026—follows a protagonist named Dartrine Beaumont who discovers she has wealthy, estranged relatives running an alligator farming empire in Florida, only to step into a dark world of generational trauma, family secrets, and chilling mansion halls.

The event featuring Lakeland native Sophia Huneycutt is part of the Center for Florida History Lecture Series at Florida Southern College. Here are the details for the evening:
