Global skydivers unite in Lake Wales to break 40-year-old record

One of the most complex and visually breathtaking skydiving records is being attempted in Lake Wales.

From Nov. 10-13, 26 high-caliber skydivers from four countries across the globe will gather at Jump Florida to attempt to set a new world record for the largest vertical stack canopy formation. If successful, the group would surpass the longstanding record of 24 skydivers, set by the British Royal Marines in 1986 and unbroken for 40 years.

This formation is extremely complex, with skydivers jumping out of a plane one after another to create a massive vertical “stack” or human chain. After a “build-up day” on Tuesday, Nov. 10, attempts to break the world record will take place Nov. 11-13.

  • Participants will begin each day at 6 a.m., with the first attempts to break the record taking place between 6:15 and 6:45 a.m. each day.
  • There will be four or five attempts each day.
  • Spectators are encouraged to view the record attempts at Jump Florida once the drop zone opens daily at 7 a.m.
