2004 Ford Mini Van was traveling westbound on I-4 near the 26 milepost (approaching the Hillsborough county line). 2018 Chevy truck, an FDOT road ranger with traffic cones deployed, was stopped along the inside shoulder behind 2016 Lexus which was disabled and stopped due to a flat tire.
The Ford Mini Van approached Road ranger, failed to move over as required by Florida law, and for unknown reasons traveled onto the inside paved shoulder and collided with the rear of Road Ranger Truck.
The initial impact propelled Chevy Truck – Road Ranger forward and the road ranger truck collided with the rear of the Lexus. The driver of Ford Mini Van expired on scene and passenger is in critical condition at Lakeland Regional.
