The Lakeland Fire Department (LFD) invites the community to join them on August 5, 2019, at Fire Station 5 to help welcome the department’s newest fire engine into service. New Engine 51 is the department’s first clean-cab concept apparatus and is the first of its kind in the department’s effort to protect its firefighters from unnecessary exposure to carcinogens.
The department will host a welcome event at Station 5 to show the community the new features of the truck with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the engine. There will be tours of the new fire engine, as well as of the fire station. Complimentary refreshments and goodies for children in attendance will also be available.
The event runs from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM and is designed as an inclusive way to have members of the community be directly involved in placing vital public safety resources, like a new fire engine, into service.
The new fire engine will be replacing the existing Engine 51 as part of the department’s regularly scheduled replacement cycle. The new fire engine features several new protections for firefighters as part of the department’s safety and health initiatives while remaining cost-neutral.
