The seventh case of rabies in 2019 confirmed in Polk County; bat tests positive for rabies
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Section confirmed this week the seventh positive rabies case in Polk County for the year. On Wednesday, August 7, 2019, a resident on Derosa Road in the area of Polk City reported they found a dead bat in their dog kennel area on the previous day (the 6th). 5 dogs had access to the kennel.
Polk County Animal Control impounded the bat and sent it for rabies testing. It was confirmed positive for rabies on 08/09/19. All five dogs that had access to the bat are currently vaccinated for rabies and currently licensed. The dogs are being quarantined and treated. This is the 7th positive rabies case for Polk County this year.
