Three different players finished in the top 10 as Florida Southern College women’s golf wrapped up its first weekend of play with a second-place finish at the Lady Falcon Invitational. After seeing themselves at the top of the team leaderboard following the first two rounds on Friday, the Moccasins were unable to keep the momentum flowing on Saturday and fired a combined 310 to finish at +49 for the tournament, one shot behind Tampa.
Despite being unable to hang on to first place, the Mocs did finish with three players near the top of the leaderboard. Amanda Gartrell carded a +5 (77) to finish in second place, carding a +7 (223) over the entire tournament. Loren Perez had her best round on Saturday by firing a +1 (73) to card a three-round total of 224 and finish in third, and freshman Lacey Tucker came in sixth by finishing +12 (228).
Nathalie Svensson (25th) finished +27 (243) and Shelby Lewis (t-28th) finished +30 (246) to round out the five players on the Moccasin lineup. Sun Hwang and Haley Musselman played as individuals, finishing t-15th and 47th, respectively.
Tampa’s Kiira Riihijarvi had a phenomenal showing on Saturday, carding a -2 (70) to win the tournament. On the team leaderboard, Seminole State, Daytona State, and Embry-Riddle rounded out the top five.
The Moccasins are back in action next weekend when they face a loaded field at the Battle at Old South in Bluffton, S.C. from Sept. 21-22.
