The Sharp Family Tourism and Education Center on the Florida Southern campus will host a Wright After Dark Tour experience on Friday, October 11, and a Frank Lloyd Wright Halloween Tour on Friday, October 25. Members of the public also are invited to attend a talk by Senior Tour Guide Jack Coffey as part of the Lakeland History Speaker Series at the Lakeland Public Library on Sunday, October 10, and to learn about becoming a Frank Lloyd Wright docent during a Volunteer Mixer on Saturday, October 19.
Reservations are required for both of the evening tours, which will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at a cost of $25 per person. Whether wishing to view FSC’s beautiful Frank Lloyd Wright structures lit by artificial light or to be part of our once-a-year Halloween spooktacular, individuals with an interest in participating are encouraged to sign up early, since tour group sizes are limited. These fun and unique tour events will offer unforgettable opportunities for visitors to become acquainted with the largest single-site collection of the famed American architect’s work.
The Florida Southern College Historic District, which is home to 13 Wright-designed structures, was designated a National Historic Landmark by the U.S. Department of the Interior in 2012.
Coffey’s presentation at the Lakeland Public Library will provide information on the history of Frank Lloyd Wright’s world-renowned architectural work for Florida Southern College. The talk will start at 7 p.m. on Oct. 10.
Those who attend the on-campus Volunteer Mixer, which will be taking place from 9 to 10 a.m. on Oct. 19, are welcome to enjoy coffee and donuts while learning about the work of a Frank Lloyd Wright docent. Participants who submit a completed tour guide application will be eligible to take a 60-minute Basic Tour at no charge.
