Florida Southern College’s men’s cross country team finished fifth at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn. behind a strong 11th place showing from Mason Jones.
Jones, who finished in 25:53.3, chopped 20 seconds off his time from the UF Mountain Dew Invite two weeks ago. Freshmen Troy Smith, Alex Guy and Bryson Yamnitz all marked personal best’s in today’s race. Smith’s 27:04.1 matched his time from two weeks ago while Guy’s 27:59.0 knocked 4.9 seconds off his PR.
Florida Southern totaled 197 points en route to their fifth place team finish while Augustana (S.D.) won the meet with 42 points. Michigan Tech was second overall with 55 points while Sioux Falls (96 pts.) and Western Washington (126 pts.) filled in just before Southern.
Josh Wagner was the second Moccasin to finish, coming in 20th place with a 26:19.1 time. Mitchell Kozik finished third for Southern with a time of 26:37.4, enough for 30th place. Smith (27:04.1, 49th) and Guy (27:59.0, 87th) rounded out the top five for Florida Southern.
The Mocs will race again on Friday, Oct. 11 at the Royals Cross Country Challenge in Charlotte, N.C.
