Florida Southern College women’s golf head coach Robbie Davis will join an elite list of college coaches when he is inducted into the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Coaches Hall of Fame on Dec, 8 at the WGCA Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at Planet Hollywood Resort in Las Vegas. Davis is the 52nd member of the WGCA Coaches Hall of Fame and is the first Florida Southern women’s golf coach to enter the WGCA Hall of Fame.
“I am thrilled and honored to be recognized for coaching, something that I love to do,” Davis said. “It’s gratifying and humbling to see student-athletes perform and succeed at high levels, and feel like you’ve been a major part of that. I’m extremely thankful to Doug Gordin for his mentorship during my time at Florida Southern, as well as Rollins head coach Julie Garner, whose friendship and drive to succeed have made me a better coach.”
In his 23 seasons at the helm of the program, Davis has led the Moccasins to four NCAA Division II National Championships (2000, 2001, 2002, 2007) and five runner-up finishes (1998, 1999, 2003, 2004, 2012). The Mocs have advanced to NCAA postseason play 19 times under Davis, including 13 trips to the NCAA Championships. He has helped produce five individual national champions (Shanna Nagy – 1998; Lisa Cave – 1999 & 2000; Jana Peterkova – 2001 & 2002), five WGCA Player of the Year winners (Nagy – 1998 & 1999; Rachel Bell – 2001; Peterkova – 2002; Pamela Feggans – 2005), and five SSC Golfers of the Year (Nagy – 1999; Bell – 2001; Peterkova – 2002; Feggans – 2005; Heather Burgner – 2009).
Davis is also a two-time Division II Golf Pride WGCA Coach of the Year (2002, 2007) and has been named SSC Coach of the Year seven times (1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2007, 2011, 2013). In 2017, Davis was inducted into the Polk County Sports Hall of Fame, and is also a three-time GolfWeek Magazine National Coach of the Year (2000, 2001, 2002). During his time at Florida Southern, the Moccasins have earned 46 all-America honors, including 27 first-team selections.
Davis is now one of three Florida Southern coaches to enter a Golf Hall of Fame, joining former men’s golf coaches Doug Gordin (2000) and Charley Matlock (1991), who are members of the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Hall of Fame.
