The Southeastern wrestling team started its 2019-20 season with a solid showing at the Patriot Invitational.
SEU had four wrestlers place among numerous bonus point wins during the individual tournament.
Jaaziel Santana won the 215-pound bracket, picking up a 6-4 decision over Marian’s Chris Sharp in the championship. Santana cruised to the final match, winning all four of his prior matches by bonus points getting two majors and two tech falls. Esau Bazilme finished third at 125.
Coleman Bryant was second at 174, losing a 3-1 decision to No. 20 Scott Sopko of Indiana Tech.
Dylan Chatterton was third at 157, picking up a 7-2 decision in the third-place bout. His only loss of the day was to preseason No. 1 Tres Leon of Cumberlands in a 7-2 decision.
At 149, Andreus Bond advanced to the semifinals with a major and two pins and ended up placing third.
Stephen Kelle had a solid day at 165, advancing to the semis with a pair of decisions and a tech fall. At 197, Jesse Pryor advanced to the semis before an injury ended his tournament.
The Fire will host their first dual meet of the season on Saturday against Keiser.
