One of the most decorated goal-scorers in the history of collegiate soccer has continued her playing career on the professional level. Senior forward Uchenna Kanu has inked a professional contract with Sevilla FC Femenino.
Kanu capped off an illustrious four-year career at Southeastern with 42 goals scored and 20 assists, a single-season career high in helpers her senior season. Additionally, Kanu set new NAIA career records for Goals Scored (157) and Points (366).
“We are extremely proud of Uchenna,” shared SEU head coach Randy Belli. “Not only due to her signing a professional contract, but also her academic achievements and spiritual growth.”
The Abia, Nigeria native led her team back to the NAIA National Championship Semifinals for a second consecutive season this past year.
“Uche has worked extremely hard, yet gives all the glory to God,” added Coach Belli.
Sevilla FC competes in the Primera División de la Liga de Fútbol Femenino, which is the highest level of league competition for women’s football in Spain.
At the time of Kanu’s signing, Sevilla FC is in 11th place in the Primera Division, four spots clear of the relegation zone. Kanu’s first possible appearance could come in Sevilla’s next match against first-place Barcelona FC on Saturday at 6:00 a.m. eastern.
