The Florida Tropics won their sixth straight game – their longest win streak now in team history — and Brett Petricek recorded the first shutout in team history, as they defeated the Dallas Sidekicks 7-0 Saturday night in a Major Arena Soccer League showdown in Dallas.
The Tropics improved to 11-1 overall, to maintain their lead in the MASL Eastern Conference, and also set a record for most wins in a season, doing it in just their 12th game of the 24 game regular season
Victor Parreiras and Ricardo Carvalho scored on set pieces in the first quarter, but neither team scored again until Florida put up a three-spot in the third quarter to take a 5-0 lead into the final period.
Rafa Alves, Lucas Teixeira and Joshio Sandoval, all defenders, scored in the third, with Ruggles
The Tropics nearly had a shutout at home last weekend in defeating St. Louis, 7-1, allowing just an own goal in the second half. Petricek, who came into the game with a goals against average of just 3.61. was credited with seven saves on just 10 shots.
The Tropics are right back at it Saturday night in Mesuite in a 7:05 (CST) start. Florida will then host San Diego on Saturday, Feb. 8 at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland.
