The Florida Southern College men’s basketball team will host the NCAA South Regional as the No. 1 seed, the NCAA has announced. Florida Southern will face No. 8 Miles College on Saturday, March 14.
The three-day Regional will take place March 14, 15, and 17 at the Jenkins Field House in Lakeland.
The Mocs earned an automatic qualifier by winning the Sunshine State Conference Tournament, with a 119-108 win over Nova Southeastern.
On Saturday, March 14, four games will tip off, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
No. 1 Florida Southern (29-2) vs. No. 8 Miles (22-7)
No. 4 Alabama-Huntsville (26-5) vs. No. 5 Lee (22-7)
No. 2 Nova Southeastern (23-6) vs. No. 7 Embry-Riddle (20-10)
No. 3 Valdosta State (26-4) vs. No. 8 Palm Beach Atlantic (21-9)
Florida Southern enters the NCAA’s with an overall record of 46-32 in the national tournament, in their 34th appearance. This is the third consecutive appearance for Southern. Miles and FSC have never met.
A year ago, the Mocs won their first game before falling in the Round of 32.
The Mocs are led by senior Brett Hanson, who was named the SSC Tournament MVP, after being named the conference’s Player of the Year earlier this week. His career scoring total is 2,238 points, the third highest in school history. Additionally, he has grabbed 844 rebounds (6th all–time), dished out 439 assists (6th all–time), and forced 216 steals (4th all–time).
Jalyn Hinton was also named to the All-Tournament team, after being named the SSC Defensive Player of the Year earlier in the week. Hinton continues to lead all of Division II in blocked shots with 3.41 per game.
Jack Rauch had a career night en route to making the All-SSC Tournament team, with 31 points, 20 of which came in the first half. He now has 1,188 career points.
Tickets for the Regionals will be $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and students, with $2 for children. An all-session pass is available for $25. Tickets may be purchased in the FSC Athletic Offices in the Jenkins Field House.
