Calls for a structure fire came in the evening of Wednesday, March 10, at 304 Fern Road. Upon arriving, firefighters discovered it wasn’t the structure that was on fire, but rather a box truck that was parked at one of the building’s loading docks. The facility serves as a storage and maintenance facility for Polk County Schools. Firefighters quickly got to work to contain the fire.
The attack included making sparks fly as firefighters used their power tools to breach the truck’s storage area, to allow for ventilation, and entry so the flames could be extinguished. Although property damage was sustained, fortunately, nobody was injured. The cause of the fire remains undetermined.
