Florida Southern College is planning to move its graduate nursing program into the former campus of St. Joseph Academy.
The Catholic Church’s Diocese of Orlando shuttered St. Joseph Academy in 2020.
Before buying the property from the Catholic Church’s Diocese of Orlando, Florida Southern College needs the City of Lakeland’s approval for a change in zoning.
If all goes as planned with the city May 18, the graduate program will move to the former St. Joseph Academy building in time for fall semester classes 21-22.
Document show that the college is under contract to buy the 4.67-acre campus from the diocese provided no major obstructions come up during the rezoning process.
The Diocese of Orlando put the Academy property on the market for $5.15 million. FSC would not disclose the purchase price at this time.
The Planning and Zoning Commission hearing begins at 8:30 a.m. on May 18th in the City Commission Room at City Hall, 228 S. Massachusetts Ave.
