Went to Cobb and Penn last Wednesday night. It was AMAZING!
Got there 5 minutes before Happy Hour ended. (We were not going for Happy Hour) The waitress said, “if you hurry and order a beer I can put it in at the happy hour price”. I didn’t know what I wanted so she quickly ran and got a sample of a particular beer for me and I loved it. So she put in two for me at a happy hour price and was going to bring me the second one halfway through my meal. My husband ordered a more expensive glass of wine. About halfway through our meal she asked if I wanted that second beer and I said actually I did not but it was no big deal not to worry about it. She said she couldn’t take off happy hour beer BUT she took off the glass of wine instead! (Which was three times the price of the beer!) I call that excellent service!
I got the scotch egg which I’ve had before at other places but this was amazing! Crunchy on the outside was perfect and they put just a tiny bit of spicy sauce on it which was to die for! Getting two complete eggs was very filling! I also got the tomato soup. It was a little bit sweet for me but that’s just my opinion. I brought it home added some balsamic vinegar and had it for lunch I had a salad with a green dressing which I have never had before and it was so good I ate it all! There was a large amount of bacon and feta on the salad which is exactly how I like it. I asked them to do the beets on the side which they did. The beets were sweet and perfectly done.
My husband got the cheese/meat board. SO MUCH FOOD! Cheese and meat was cut thick. Fruit was large and fresh! (We brought 1/2 home and had for snacks for TWO nights!) He also got a salad which he said was fresh, flavorful and filling. The bread that came with his board was hot, soft, and fresh and we FOUGHT over he last piece lol!!
My husband felt the menu was “limited” But I’m told that they change the menu seasonally so that helps. This is a not negative comment. I personally don’t like huge menus with dozens and dozens of items. For me personally, keep it smaller and simpler so you can perfect the unique items on your menu!
There were only three tables with customers and a couple people at the bar. Our server said it was a very quiet night and they were bored lol but she was really really good about not hovering but being available.
I LOVE the history of this place and we wandered around the old house checking it out!
HIGHLY recommend Cobb and Penn!!
