I have been wanting to try The Back Nine Lakeland for quite a while. I have heard a lot of great things both on this page as well as from family members and friends. Friday we took the opportunity to check them out as my husband and I was both in Lakeland at the same time and both hungry.
As soon as we walked through the door we were greeted by the hostess and promptly seated. Sara who was going to be our waitress was busy so the hostess promptly took our drink order and delivered them to our table. Moments later, Sara still busy, the hostess returned and took our food order. Now, please know this all happened in a matter of minutes. We were in no way left waiting or wanting anything. Truth be told, I was a little preoccupied, standing near our table speaking to some friends. Sara came by our table to introduce her and see if we need anything, shortly after that our food was delivered. It came out fast and hot.
We started with the Fried Mushrooms. They were just as good as others have mentioned, hand-battered, perfectly fried, and served with a dipping sauce I would describe something like a ranch with a little kick. For our main course, I choose the Mushroom Swiss Burger and their Par 3 fries. Oh, my goodness it was all delicious. The burger had a sauce they called “Liquid Gold” on it and was cooked to perfection. I told my husband the cook picked the exact second to take it off the grill for the med/well I asked for. My husband had the Pulled Pork Sandwich with Par 3 Fries and a side of Mac n Cheese. He swapped out the peach sauce normally served with the pork for the Liquid Gold sauce. He was also very satisfied with his meal and topped it off with a piece of Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie; he said it was really good too.
Sara was an excellent waitress and very friendly, making sure we had everything we needed. We paid our bill and when Sara came back with my card I asked to speak with Jenna, the owner so I could introduce myself. Who appear at our table, our hostess and order taker. Yes, they had a few call outs and come to find out her husband was in the kitchen cooking. So they both did what good owners do and jumped right in to make sure their customers have a great experience. Jenna was so welcoming and kind. I have known they are both still teachers that have perused their dream of opening this restaurant. Please support this hard working local couple. Stop by and see for yourself the what a great place it is, you won’t be disappointed.
