Mayor Mutz helps adopt a $763M budget for next year – including higher taxes for all taxpayers

Editorial

Lakeland City Commission approved a more than $763 million budget for next year that will mean higher tax bills for property owners.

City Commission voted to approve the $763,380,405 budget for the fiscal year 2022, which starts Oct. 1.

It represents a 26% budget increase from last year when the city officials slashed expenses because of significant concerns about the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

This 26% means millions and millions of extra money in the coffers of the City of Lakeland.

The budget has $1.1 million costs for a package that would outfit Lakeland Police Department with body-worn cameras.
