Please come out and support the removing of Board Policy 8450.01
Back on April 27, 2021 we held a huge rally outside of our Polk County School Board Meeting with hundreds in attendance with a goal to have the mask policy removed for the upcoming school year.
We had a second rally on June 8, 2021 during a board meeting to ensure the Board understood that we weren’t backing down. Our attorney, Jeff Childers, held a press conference to announce publicly the lawsuit he had already presented to the Board privately.
On July 27, the Board met and discussed the removal of Board Policy 8450.01. At this meeting, with the pressure of CCDF, Jeff Childers, and possible litigation, all seven board members vocalized that they would vote to remove the Facial Covering Policy. This began the lengthy process to accomplish that goal.
At the September board work session, the policy was presented with adjusted language. We pushed for the policy to be rescinded completely.
At the September board meeting, the policy was presented, completed, and deleted for review.
The Board made a public notice that they would be voting on the policy deletion at the October 26 meeting.
The Board failed to add the vote to the October 26 meeting. We brought the omission to their attention days before the meeting, however all items must be added to the agenda at least 7 days prior to the scheduled meeting.
The Superintendent assured us it would be added to the November 9 meeting agenda and voted on at that time. We checked for the agenda daily and contacted the Superintendent November 2 to ensure the item would be added to the November 9 meeting. It was added to the November 9 meeting on November 2 and will be voted on at the November 9 meeting.
Since the July 27 meeting all board members unanimously voiced they would vote to remove Policy 8450.01, two of the seven Board Members have since changed their mind.
