A two-vehicle crash north of Lakeland Friday, December 3, 2021, at around 8:39 PM, resulted in the death of a motorcyclist.
49-year old Glen James McCord of Lakeland suffered head trauma from the crash and was transported to a local hospital for treatment, but passed away from his injuries at around 2:00 AM, Saturday.
Mr. McCord was the driver of a blue and white 2009 Suzuki Sport motorcycle.
The other vehicle involved was a white 2006 Lexus RX400 SUV, which was driven by 27-year old Daniel Goldman of Tampa. Mr. Goldman and his five passengers were not injured.
Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and members of Polk County Fire Rescue responded to the crash scene on Green Road in unincorporated Lakeland, about 500-feet south of Duff Road.
The preliminary investigation, based on evidence and witness statements, indicated that Mr. McCord’s Suzuki was travelling south on Green Road.
Mr. Goldman’s Lexus was travelling north on Green Road, and made a left (west) turn at the Hunt Fountain Park entrance, thus crossing into the path of the motorcycle.
The impact between the vehicles forced Mr. McCord to be ejected from his Suzuki. A helmet was found at the scene, but it did not appear that Mr. McCord was wearing it prior to the crash. All occupants of the Lexus had been wearing their safety restraints.
Any civil or criminal charges are pending the completion of the investigation, which remains ongoing.
