The construction of a state courthouse in Lakeland will have to wait.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis vetoed $50 million from the state budget intended for the building of a facility to house a newly created Sixth District Court of Appeals in Lakeland. That action was one among many vetoes totaling $3.1 billion that DeSantis’ office announced Thursday afternoon.
DeSantis held a news conference at The Villages to signal his signing of the appropriations bill, which shrank to $109.9 billion after the vetoes.
State Sen. Kelli Stargel, R-Lakeland, stood behind DeSantis at the news conference, but DeSantis deleted the budget item she had championed as chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
