Polk County deputies have arrested five people they say were involved in multiple car break-ins in Lakeland.
The sheriff’s office was investigating 24 car burglaries reported this week in the Highland City area — eight reported Monday and 16 more reported on Wednesday.
Many of the burglaries reportedly happened in the area of Central Avenue SE along with 1st and 2nd Avenue SE.
On Friday, the sheriff’s office said a 20-year-old and four teens were arrested in connection to 33 burglaries in the area. Investigators plan to release more information later.
Among the items stolen was a rifle with a scope and ammo and a woman’s purse with her identification and credit cards.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office reminds residents to “lock it or lose it” each night and remove valuables like electronics and purses or make sure they’re completely concealed.
Very disappointed in Crime Stoppers. LE shows pics of suspects and to call their number if they are spotted, within an hour i call, an arrest is made that day. Was told i was would be eligible for CS reward! Called today and Crime Stoppers told me im not as i didnt call THEM
I wasnt even aware a crime had been committed until sheriffs came showing photos of suspects who were believed to be in the area. Saw them and instantly called sherriffs dept. Glad to be of help but very frustrated with Crime Stoppers Just seems like they are looking for any loophole to not pay the reward. Seriously
