Ginger Peach Whiskey Smash – Behind the Bar with The Twisted Mixer

I have a bit of a fondness for a drink known as a “smash”. Probably because my childhood nicknames from my family are mostly some variations of “Ashersmash”, “Smashley”, or “Smash”. I feel like I see smash cocktails everywhere these days and for good reason. Nothing brings your mixer game up a notch like including real smashed up fruit instead of the sugary juices and sodas found at most bars.

So, for this week’s recipe peaches, ginger beer, and whiskey come together in one light and refreshing summer cocktail. And oh my! Summer hit with a fury, didn’t she? With temperatures in the 90’s, humidity in the 80’s and thunderstorms daily, when it comes to cocktails ice cold is non-negotiable. This Smash delivers! This fruity drink is slightly sweet and kicked up with the fizzy action from my favorite drink topper, ginger beer. One sip of this Ginger Peach Whiskey Smash and you’ll be flooded with warm summer memories. And per my usual I will give you a little tip: if you are craving this libation out of season or just feeling lazy you can substitute peach nectar for fresh peaches, but I encourage you to try it with fresh peaches if you can.

Ingredients

  • 4 -5 pieces of fresh peach, very ripe
  • 1 thin lemon slice
  • 2 ounces whiskey
  • 1-2 ounces ginger beer (I prefer Goslings)
  • fresh mint (optional garnish)

In the bottom of a rocks glass, muddle together a few peach slices and lemon slice, until pulverized.  Add the bourbon and stir.
Fill your glass with crushed ice and top it off with ginger beer. Stir and garnish with peach slices and fresh mint. Enjoy.
