WHY: Permanent repair of sanitary sewer line
The City of Lakeland Wastewater Collection Division will perform a sewer repair at the intersection of Sylvester Road and Sylvester Court/Richmond Road.
A hole started to form in the roadway at this location and City crews have temporarily isolated the issue and made a short-term repair. A complete repair to permanently fix the issue will start the morning of Monday, August 28, 2023, and the project will continue until completion. The construction area will be closed to all through traffic for the duration of the repair.
David Bayhan, Director of Water Utilities said, “The exact nature of what needs to be done is not known at this time but will be determined once the area is excavated. Unfortunately, we will not know exactly how long the repair will take until we dig the area up and survey what needs to be done.”
Access to residences adjacent to the intersection will be maintained, along with access to Sylvester Court. However, no through traffic will be permitted through the intersection during the project. East bound vehicular traffic approaching the impacted intersection on Sylvester Road will be detoured to Fredricksburg Avenue to HWY 98. Approaching traffic from the opposite direction on Hwy 98 that would have turned to go west bound on Sylvester Road be routed to Fredricksburg Avenue.
