The replacement of the CSX Railroad Bridge over Interstate 4 near Kathleen Road in Lakeland will cause road closures starting Tuesday.
The existing 250-foot bridge is being replaced with two new 400-foot bridges to provide for CSX double tracking and will accommodate future expansion of I-4, the Florida Department of Transportation said in a news release. The contractor is removing the embankment, which requires the eastbound exit ramp at Kathleen Road to be closed.
The eastbound exit ramp from I-4 to Kathleen Road at Exit 32 will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. A posted detour will direct motorists who want to exit at Kathleen Road to exit the U.S. 92 exit instead, then to Wabash Avenue, south to George Jenkins Boulevard, and east to Kathleen Road, FDOT said. However, depending on the destination, motorists might want o exit at County Line Road or U.S. 98 North instead.
