Lakeland commissioners unanimously approved the municipal-owned utility lowering its fuel rate from $55 to $45 per 1,000 kilowatt-hours Tuesday as of Oct. 1 as well as a slight decrease in its environmental charge. This is significantly lower than a year ago when the fuel rate was $70 per 1,000 kilowatt-hours.
For the average residential customer using around 1,200 kilowatt hours a month, they will see approximately a $12 monthly savings on their utility bill. The difference will be more significant for commercial and industrial customers.
Tori Bombard, LE’s Fuel Manager, said that all the metrics are there to indicate fuel prices will continue to drop and be lower in 2024. Bombard said experts predict Florida will experience a mild fall followed by a colder-than-average winter. There is a steady supply of natural gas right now with a good amount in storage as the nation moves into the colder months.
Lakeland Electric will also roll back its environmental surcharge from about $2.40 down to $1.59 per 1,000 kilowatt-hours. The average homeowner will see a slight decrease of 98 cents.
Complete BS. Of course we will see savings, less demand, cooler temps. Only a fool would think that they will lower their rates. Even if they do it will be temporary at best and it will be minimal.
