This debut novel with middle eastern folklore themes was atmospheric and beautifully written. Inside this book was a story of life, death, love, and loss. The way death was depicted with a soul’s story being told was magical. The stories from the souls captivated me. I was awestruck by this book. It gave me that “stare at a wall and contemplate life” feeling upon completion. The way it showed how much parental love transcended reason brought tears to my eyes. How hard it is letting go of the ones we love most even when we know we should was depicted beautifully. The book didn’t end in a way I expected, which was a pleasant surprise. It left me with a bittersweet feeling. I will be thinking about this one for a long time. I caution those who are squeamish because there are a few (detailed and beautifully written) scenes that made me a touch queasy. This book was well worth reading regardless. I highly recommend giving this book a read. Bring tissues!
