Gov. Ron DeSantis’ office is responding to a viral video posted by a prominent conservative commentator, David J. Harris Jr., purporting to show a wave of illegal migrants waiting in line to obtain driver’s licenses and/or ID cards.
Illegal aliens cannot legally obtain a license or ID in Florida, and under recently signed laws by DeSantis, cannot use out-of-state driver’s licenses as well.
Harris said the video is from Pompano Beach, Florida.
“Are you kidding me?” he said in reaction to the video. “[The video recorder said] most were Somali, illegal immigrants. A whole lot of military-aged men there.”
“All you need to vote is a driver’s license,” he continued. “If this is happening in Florida – I wonder where else in the country is taking place.”
In response, DeSantis communications director Bryan Griffin assured that driver’s licenses and ID cards “are not being issued and will not be issued to illegal immigrants in Florida.”
And press secretary Jeremy Redfern called the video “nonsense.”
