Incident Description
PCU is investigating a spill which appears to be greater than 1,000 gallons, in our Northwest Regional service area associated with the Northwest Wastewater Treatment Facility FLA 178667. Once the investigation is finalized, we will update the Pollution Notice. Update 01/03/2025 On December 31, 2024, at 12:00 PM 2,500-gallons of untreated wastewater discharged from Lift Station 72, located at 1379 Marcum Rd in Lakeland and an upstream manhole (mh-03841) located just south of the Mann Rd and US Hwy 98 intersection. A blown fuse to a transformer was discovered to have caused a power outage to the station and subsequently a back-up in the collection system. Utilities? Operations Staff replaced the fuse and stopped the spill at 2:00 PM.1,500 gallons were recovered by Vac Truck and the area was then washed down and limed. Untreated wastewater flow from the manhole did impact a water body just north of Lift Station 72 which flows into Fox Branch. As a precaution signs were posted, and samples were taken for E-Coli and Fecal Coliform on January 2, 2025. The sampling results will be provided to the Department once they are received.
