Tri-Union Seafoods has recalled canned tuna products sold in Florida, the FDA announced.
The canned tuna products sold under the Genova, Van Camp’s, H-E-B, and Trader Joe’s brand names have been recalled due to the “easy open” pull tab can lid encountering manufacturing defects.
According to the FDA, the limited products that encountered the defects could compromise the integrity of the product seal, causing it to leak, or could be contaminated with clostridium botulinum, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning.
Impacted products distributed at these stores:
- Genova 7 oz. was sold at Costco in Florida and Georgia
- Genova 5 oz. was sold at Publix, Safeway, Walmart, and independent retailers in Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, New Jersey, Tennessee, and Texas
- Van Camp’s Label was sold at Walmart and independent retailers in Pennsylvania, Florida, and New Jersey
Recalled tuna can be returned to the retailer for a full refund, thrown away, or contact Tri-Union Seafood directly or a retrieval kit and a coupon for a replacement product.
