The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in an investigation regarding a person being shot while driving westbound on Interstate 4, by what appears to be someone in another vehicle. PCSO received a 911 call from the victim at 3:47 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, who reported that a projectile came through the driver’s side window of her truck and grazed her while she was heading west on Interstate 4 in the area between the on and off ramp of State Road 559, between Polk City and Auburndale (see map).
The victim was transported by Polk County Fire Rescue to a local hospital where she was treated and released. She was driving a white 2002 Toyota Tacoma truck with the Orkin logo on it. According to the investigation so far, it appears the round was fired from someone heading eastbound on Interstate 4 at the same time. There is no evidence to suggest that the gun was fired by someone on the ground alongside the highway.
