Contractors working on behalf of the City of Lakeland Water Utilities Department will begin cleaning large-diameter gravity sewer lines (21” and 36”) along the southern and eastern sides of Lake Hollingsworth. The work was initially scheduled to start a week prior but due to a conflict with the contractor, the date has been pushed back to start August 18, 2025.
This essential maintenance is necessary due to sediment buildup resulting from Hurricane Milton. The project is expected to take approximately 30 days, with work occurring Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts
To ensure public safety during this operation, the following traffic impacts and closures will be in place:
- Lake Hollingsworth Drive:
Frequent single-lane closures will occur between the Yacht Club and the Hollingsworth Road Roundabout. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in active work zones, with flaggers on site to direct vehicles safely. - Multiuse Path (East Side of Lake):
The walking and biking path between the Yacht Club and Hollingsworth Road Roundabout will be closed daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. – Monday through Friday. - Unaffected Areas:
The multiuse path from the Yacht Club heading west and around to the Florida Southern College campus will remain open and accessible throughout the project.
Safety Reminders
- Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes and follow all posted detour signs.
- Drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians are urged to avoid the work zone when possible or use caution when traveling nearby.
