Incident Description
On December 15, 2025, at 10:30 am, Polk County Utilities (PCU) was notified of a sanitary sewer overflow at 4901 Imperial Lakes Blvd, behind Lift Station 20. The discharge was contained and stopped at approximately 11:30 am. The 23,000-gallon overflow was caused by a damage to an air release valve (ARV) resulting from nearby construction activity. Upon discovery, the construction crew immediately constructed a berm to contain the spill while PCU operations personnel promptly by shutting down Lift station 20 to reduce system pressure and allow for necessary repairs. The damaged ARV was repaired and restored to functional working condition and Lift Station 20 was returned to service. A vacuum truck was utilized to recover approximately 2,000 gallons. The impacted area of the containment berm was treated with lime for disinfection in accordance with the Sanitary Sewer Overflow Response Plan. There is no apparent threat to public or environmental health and safety.
