A 23-year-old Lakeland man died after a single-vehicle accident in Mulberry the evening of Feb. 17.
The accident happened on Church Avenue and Northeast 5th Street about 6:15 p.m. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that when first responders arrived, they found Jeremiah David MacDonald, 23, of Lakeland lying in a corner of the intersection with serious injuries. He was taken to a hospital by ambulance, where he died.
The Sheriff’s Office said that according to a preliminary investigation, MacDonald was driving a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee north on Church Avenue, also known as State Road 37, when he struck a curb, causing the Jeep to rotate.
The vehicle then flipped multiple times. The Sheriff’s Office said MacDonald was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the Jeep.
The road was closed for nearly three hours. The investigation is ongoing, the Sheriff’s Office said.
