Police have arrested Kevin Lamont Reed Jr., 23, in connection with the fatal shooting of 48-year-old Steven Michael Magee outside Wally’s Pool Hall in Lakeland.
The incident occurred early Thursday morning, March 5, 2026, in the parking lot of the business located at 1136 E. Main St.

- The Incident: According to investigators, both men had been inside the pool hall earlier that night but did not interact. Shortly after 12:30 a.m., an argument broke out between them in the parking lot.
- The Confrontation: Witnesses and surveillance footage reportedly show Magee backing away with his hands up in an attempt to de-escalate the situation. Reed allegedly followed him, pushed him, and then pulled out a firearm, shooting Magee multiple times.
- The Exchange of Fire: As Magee fell to the ground, he managed to draw his own weapon and return fire. Reed fled the scene in a vehicle before police arrived.
- The Arrest: Detectives tracked Reed to his home, where he was taken into custody around 10:00 p.m. on Thursday night. A firearm believed to be used in the shooting was recovered during his arrest.
