A “significant amount of rocks” spilled on a Central Florida road, causing a Lakeland traffic problem.
The Florida Department of Transportation said this incident serves as an important reminder to properly secure all loads before traveling. Loose materials can create serious conditions for other motorists.
In the morning between 7:30 am and 8:30 a.m., a significant amount of rocks were spilled on SR 37 near Christina in Lakeland, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.
FDOT Maintenance crews responded quickly and worked to clear the roadway. At the time, traffic was reduced to one southbound lane as the cleanup operations continued.
After cleaning up the spilled rocks, all lanes were reopened.
“Drivers are encouraged to use caution in the area and allow for extra travel time,” FDOT posted at the time. “Thank you to our dedicated crews for their swift response and continued commitment to keeping our roadways safe.”
Trucks/haulers are required to cover their loads in Florida, this requirement is not followed and police do not enforce it. This is a major issue whether in town, on county roads, state highways or the interstates. Those that do bother to do so leave debris all over the outside of the bed anyone following behind is subjected to a rain of debris all over their cars. Florida Law Enforcement, get of your coffee-swilling-donut-munching rear ends and enforce the law.
Amen, brother…. since when did the police get to pick and choose what they will address? Traffic light out? No cops in sight. Speeding in your neighborhood? Again, no one. Illegally loud motor vehicles? Ditto. It’s no wonder the trust has eroded to nearly zero.
