The Polk County School Board has ratified an agreement with an employee union that will provide 2% raises.
School Board members voted 7-0 at their Feb. 24 meeting to approve the collective bargaining agreement negotiated between Polk County Public Schools and the Polk Education Association.
The Florida Legislature allotted money in the current budget for teacher raises of about $500, or about $40 a month before taxes, Polk Education Association President Stephanie Yocum said. The raises go only to teachers with at least two years of experience, omitting about 3,000 of roughly 6,800 teachers in the Polk school district, she said.

Could be worse … I know of one liberal arts college not that far from Lakeland that routinely offered its (second-class) employees 1% annually. One year they just gave a flat $30/month adjustment. Meanwhile the “executive class” received 7% bonuses on half-million dollar salaries.
