Reports indicate there was a fatal collision involving a motorcyclist and a truck on K-Ville Avenue (State Road 542) in the Auburndale area.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at the entrance of the Cadence Crossing subdivision. The details of the crash are as follows:
- The Incident: Both the motorcycle and a Ford F-150 were traveling westbound on K-Ville Avenue. The driver of the truck had slowed to a complete stop and was beginning to turn into the subdivision when the collision occurred.
- The Cause: Investigators determined that the motorcyclist, a 38-year-old Lakeland man, attempted to pass the truck on the driver’s side at a high rate of speed while the truck was turning.
- The Outcome: The motorcycle struck the truck and tumbled, ejecting the rider. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the truck was not injured in the crash. The Traffic Homicide Unit usually conducts a full investigation into these incidents to finalize the details of the report.
