Someone is handing Republican primary voters fake election ballots at chamber-sponsored candidate forums across Orange, Sumter, and Lake counties, and those ballots systematically erase every major Republican challenger from the governor’s race. The documents are designed to mimic official Florida election ballots in font, layout, and content, right down to the constitutional amendment initiatives. No disclaimer. No “sample ballot” watermark—nothing to tell the voter that what they’re holding is a rigged document.
This is not a mistake. This is a coordinated disenfranchisement operation targeting Republican primary voters – and it is happening at events funded by undisclosed corporate sponsors, organized through local chambers of commerce, and held at least once a week across Central Florida.
The Ballot: What Voters Are Actually Being Handed
The document in question lists exactly two candidates for governor: Byron Donalds (REP) and David Jolly (DEM). It uses the same typography, same formatting, and same structural design as an official Florida election ballot. It even includes ballot initiatives, like the property tax reform amendment, lending it the full weight of an authentic government document.
What it does not include:
- Paul Renner – former Speaker of the Florida House, architect of the DeSantis legislative agenda
- Jay Collins – sitting Lieutenant Governor of Florida, decorated Green Beret, combat amputee
- James Fishback – founder of Incubate Debate, the only candidate to visit all 67 counties
- Nine other qualified Republican candidates who filed, qualified, and are actively campaigning for the August 18 primary
The voter looks at the document. They see two names. They fill it out. They leave believing they’ve participated in something legitimate. They never learn that the candidate best positioned to beat David Jolly in November, the candidate who co-authored the “Free State of Florida” brand alongside Ron DeSantis, was erased from the page in their hands.
That is not a straw poll. That is voter fraud by psychological manipulation.
The Two-Stage Gaslight
This operation works in two phases, and both are designed to steal the primary before a single real vote is cast.
Stage One: Manufacture consent at the forum. Hand voters a document that looks official, at an event that feels official: chamber of commerce, candidate meet-and-greet, civic engagement. Then present a binary choice that implies the primary is already decided. Donalds versus Jolly. Republican versus Democrat. Pick one. The excluded candidates aren’t attacked. They’re disappeared. And disappearance is more effective than any attack ad, because you cannot defend against erasure. You can’t debate a candidate who’s been edited out of reality.
Stage Two: Weaponize the results as “momentum.” The straw poll numbers get published. Donalds wins overwhelmingly. Of course he does; he’s the only Republican most voters on that ballot even know is running. The results are cited in press coverage. Fundraising emails go out: “Donalds dominates Hob Nob straw poll across Central Florida.” The manufactured outcome becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, and the disenfranchised voters – the very people whose participation was exploited – never realize they were used as props.
This is what election interference looks like when you’re too sophisticated to stuff ballot boxes. You don’t need to change votes. You just need to change what voters believe their options are.
The Network: Who’s Running These Events
These are not rogue operations. They are part of a statewide circuit organized through chambers of commerce and community councils, held every election cycle, funded by corporate sponsors whose identities are often not publicly disclosed. The Central Florida events include:
| Event | Host Organization | Status |
| Seminole Hob Nob | Seminole County Chamber | Held July 9 |
| Pine Hills Hob Nob | Pine Hills Community Council | Held — results published |
| Lake County Hob Nob | South Lake Chamber of Commerce | Monday, July 27 — Clermont Performing Arts Center |
| Various Orange/Sumter events | Multiple chambers | Ongoing — at least weekly |
The sponsorship structure is well-documented. Chambers sell tiers ranging from $500 to $30,000. Top-tier sponsors receive premium booth placement, logo placement on all materials, blocks of tickets and, critically, time on stage to address the crowd before results are announced.
Who are these sponsors? For the Central Florida Hob Nobs, the names are not published on public-facing materials. The Lake County event lists a “Presenting Sponsor” and “Premier Event Sponsor” – but the logo slots are empty. That is unusual for chamber events, which typically trumpet their sponsors.
The Cape Coral Hob Nob, by contrast, openly states that the Lee County Supervisor of Elections Office conducts its straw poll. If an official county elections office is involved in ballot design or distribution at any of these Central Florida events, the candidate omissions are not merely unethical – they may constitute official misconduct.
The public deserves to know: Who designed these ballots? Who approved the candidate list? Who paid for the printing? And if a Supervisor of Elections office was involved, under whose authority were three of four major Republican candidates removed from the document?
The Motive: Why This Is Happening
Why go to all this trouble? Why the fake ballots, the erased candidates, the undisclosed sponsors?
Because Byron Donalds cannot beat David Jolly, the polling is unambiguous.
The July 20 UNF poll shows Donalds at 51%, Jolly at 46%, a statistical dead heat in a state where Republicans outnumber Democrats by nearly half a million registered voters. Jolly pulls 7% of Republicans. Donalds pulls 2% of Democrats. Among Hispanic voters, Jolly leads by 18 points. Among Black voters, and Donalds would be Florida’s first Black governor, Jolly receives 83%.
A Florida Republican should not be in a margin-of-error race with a Democrat. The fundamentals don’t support it. The registration advantage doesn’t support it. The only explanation is that Donalds is a weak general election candidate, and the people running these forums either know it – or have been paid to make sure voters never find out.
Paul Renner can beat David Jolly. He has the record. He co-authored the DeSantis agenda. He has crossover appeal without the baggage. But Renner cannot win a primary where voters are handed fake ballots that tell them he doesn’t exist.
The fix is in because the front-runner can’t win the general, and the candidate who can win is being disappeared.
The Larger Pattern: A Primary Being Managed, Not Contested
The fake ballots do not exist in isolation. They are one piece of a coordinated effort to deliver the nomination to Donalds without subjecting him to anything resembling a contested primary:
- The Florida GOP refused to hold a gubernatorial debate. Party officials set thresholds: 10% polling, $10 million raised, 10,000 donors – that only Donalds cleared. Ron DeSantis publicly condemned the decision, noting he wouldn’t have qualified under those same rules in 2018. The party engineered an outcome rather than letting voters decide.
- Donalds has refused every debate invitation. He skipped the first major televised forum. He skipped the online debate. Collins called him spineless. Renner called his absence disrespectful. Fishback said he wants a job he’s unwilling to interview for. Donalds’ response? Silence. He has over $100 million. He doesn’t need to show up.
- Donalds was mentioned by name more than 60 times at the one debate that did occur – the debate he skipped. His opponents spent the evening swinging at an empty chair. Republican voters never got to see him answer a single question.
- And now this. Fake official ballots at chamber-sponsored forums, listing only Donalds and Jolly, distributed to voters who showed up to participate in democracy and were handed a document designed to short-circuit their participation.
They are building an information bubble around Republican primary voters and calling it a primary. No debates. Rigged party thresholds. And now, phony ballots at “nonpartisan” forums that erase the competition. The voter thinks they’re making a choice. In reality, every institution they trust- the party, the chamber, the ballot in their hand- has been turned into a machine for delivering one predetermined outcome.
Florida Has Seen This Before
Straw poll manipulation is not new to this state. It has been documented repeatedly, and the pattern is always the same: campaigns treat straw polls as turnout operations, organizers look the other way, and the results get laundered as “voter sentiment.”
- Sarasota, 2018: A Ron DeSantis supporter admitted grabbing approximately 15 extra ballots and distributing them. The event used a “free pie” system where ballots were handed out with food – no hand stamps, no voter verification. Organizers delayed results to “ensure integrity.” The DeSantis supporter’s defense: “See if he wins by 15 votes. I didn’t give out more than 15.”
- Brevard, 2022: The Republican Executive Committee ran an electronic straw poll. Text messages obtained by FLORIDA TODAY showed campaigns circulating the voting link and credentials, encouraging people to vote remotely – including people outside the district. One organizer dismissed concerns: “Straw polls are fun… people who are not living in the district are voting for people in other districts.”
- Jacksonville, 2015: A city council candidate posted on Facebook offering $1,000 to the pastor who brought the most people to a Hob Nob straw poll. She drew 600 attendees. When confronted, she denied it was pay-to-play.
But the 2026 Central Florida Hob Nobs represent an escalation. Previous scandals involved ballot-stuffing – getting more votes for your candidate. This scandal involves ballot-designing – erasing the other candidates from the document entirely. You don’t need to stuff a ballot when the competition has been deleted.
The Critical Test: Lake County Hob Nob – Monday, July 27
The South Lake Chamber of Commerce is hosting the Lake County Hob Nob this Monday at the Clermont Performing Arts Center, 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM. The event is free and open to the public. It is advertised as an opportunity to “meet candidates running for city, county, state, and federal seats.”
Will the same fake ballot appear there?
This is a live test. If the Lake County Hob Nob distributes a ballot that lists only Donalds and Jolly – excluding Renner, Collins, Fishback, and the rest of the Republican field – then the pattern is confirmed, and the South Lake Chamber has explaining to do.
Notably, not every Hob Nob is running a rigged ballot. The Tampa Bay Chamber’s August 11 Hob Nob lists Paul Renner as an attending candidate. The manipulation is concentrated in Central Florida – the very region where Donalds leads Jolly by only 3 points in the latest UNF poll. Someone in Orange, Sumter, and Lake counties decided Republican primary voters don’t need to know who’s actually running.
📢 What Republican Voters Are Being Robbed Of
- The right to hear from all candidates. No debates. No forums with complete ballots. No way to compare records side by side.
- The right to an honest straw poll. When your ballot omits three of four major candidates, your “poll result” is propaganda, not data.
- The right to nominate the strongest candidate. The party apparatus and its shadow operators have decided who that is, and they’re using fake ballots to make sure you agree.
- The right to trust the process. When the document in your hand looks official but is a lie, when the chamber event feels civic but is a rigged game – what else are you supposed to distrust?
Every voter who filled out one of those ballots was defrauded. They spent their time. They showed up. They participated. And the result of their participation was predetermined by whoever designed, approved, and paid for the document they were handed.
That’s not democracy. That’s theater. And the people running the show owe Florida Republicans an explanation.
Demands
- Full disclosure from every chamber and community council hosting Hob Nob events in Central Florida: Who designed the ballots? Who approved the candidate list? Who paid for printing? Which sponsors – by name – funded these events?
- Full disclosure from any Supervisor of Elections office involved in Hob Nob straw polls: Under whose authority were candidates excluded from ballots designed to mimic official election documents?
- Immediate cessation: No more fake official ballots. Any straw poll materials at chamber or community events must carry conspicuous, unambiguous disclaimers identifying them as unofficial, non-binding, and not representative of the full candidate field.
- A real gubernatorial debate: Televised. All qualified Republican candidates. Before August 18. Republican voters deserve to see the people they’re being asked to choose between – all of them.
- Party accountability: The Florida GOP’s debate thresholds were designed to exclude, not include. Republicans should demand to know why their party is working harder to protect the front-runner than to inform the voters.
The primary is August 18. Early voting begins August 8.
If you attended a Hob Nob event in Central Florida and received one of these ballots, or if you were handed a document that lied to you about who’s running for governor – speak up. Document it. Share it.
If you attend the Lake County Hob Nob this Monday and see the same fake ballot, photograph it. Ask the organizers who approved it. Ask them where the other eleven Republican candidates went.
They are counting on you not noticing. They are counting on you trusting the document in your hand. They are counting on you going home and never finding out you were lied to.
Prove them wrong.
