THE MAN, THE MYTH, THE NOT-SO-LEGENDARY: THE FACE BEHIND THE DUMPSTER STORY

Our post about Alyssa Shay’s September 17 arrest drew more than a million views—and plenty of questions about the man named in the arrest affidavit. His name is Timothy Shquwan Leverett, and his mugshot is now available following an unrelated arrest.

First, a clarification: Leverett was the man the officer reported finding with Shay behind a dumpster at a Lakeland shopping plaza. He was not identified as a law enforcement officer. The badge and identification described in Shay’s affidavit were found among her belongings. The report does not say they belonged to Leverett.

Leverett was not arrested during the September 17 incident. On September 29, Lakeland police arrested him on a separate allegation of trespassing on school grounds after a warning. According to that arrest affidavit, an officer responded to McKeel Academy after a report of someone on school property. Leverett told the officer he had gone near a dumpster to dispose of items. Police records indicated he had been warned against entering the same property on July 20.

So, for everyone who asked to see the man named in the original report: this is Leverett’s mugshot from the later, unrelated arrest.
