After posting a second-place finish at the Battle at Old South over the weekend, Florida Southern College women’s golf sophomore Loren Perez has been named as the Sunshine State Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week, the SSC office announced on Monday. Perez finished the two-round tournament at -1 (71-72-143) to tie for second as the Moccasins also took second as a team. It is her first SSC Golfer of the Week honor of her career.
Her score of 71 in the first round of the tournament tied a career-low, while her overall stroke total of 143 marked a career-low in a 36-hole tournament. Perez’s second-place finish was her third top-five performance of her career and marked the fourth time she has been in the top 10. She has now posted back-to-back top-five finishes after taking third at the season-opening Lady Falcon Invitational (Sept. 13-14).
As a team Florida Southern captured second place for the second-straight year at the Battle at Old South with a team score of +12 (296-292-588), finishing nine strokes better than it did at the same tournament a year ago, when it also took second. This year’s 14-team field at the Battle at Old South featured three top-25 teams in the WHCA Coaches Poll in Lee (No. 14), Florida Southern (No. 15), and Flagler (No. 21).
