Though the roster may change, the expectations for the Southeastern University women’s basketball team do not.
The four-time defending Sun Conference regular season and tournament champions were the unanimous pick among the league’s head coaches with the participants unable to vote for their own team.
Southeastern returns just Second-Team All-Sun Conference center Marlena Schmidt from its starting lineup that went 31-3 and advanced to the NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball National Championship game.
“It is an honor to be recognized by the coaches in the league to start the season,” said coach Tim Hays, who enters his fourth season at SEU. “We know that nothing is determined until the games are played but We believe we have built a standard of expectation and preparation that has helped us stay consistent year in and year out no matter what our team looks like.”
The Fire have won their last 54 games in Sun Conference play and will begin its 2019-20 season on October 25th at College of the Ozarks.
