Polk State soccer lost 5-1 to Broward College tonight in Pembroke Pines in the first round of the NJCAA District/FCSAA State Soccer Tournament.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead on Cassandra Bernardo’s goal in the 33rd minute.
In the second half, however, Broward tied it with a goal in the 48th minute and made it 2-1 with a goal in the 49th.
The Seahawks went on to score three more times, twice on penalty kicks.
The Eagles took 10 shots, with four by Samantha Gutierrex, two each by Masja Hoogendoorn and Xiomara Lewis-Ruggiano, and solo efforts by Bernardo and Daniela Ramos.
Goalkeeper Celeste Chiles made four saves in the first half and seven in the second.
The Seahawks took 13 shots and had five saves.
The defeat ends the season for the Eagles.
