Polk State lost 10-7 to Pasco-Hernando State College yesterday at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven.
The Bobcats jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second on a solo home run, two singles, a walk, and a double.
The Eagles got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning when Rohsean Riley walked and Dalton Boyd drilled a home run to left.
They rallied for three more runs the following inning to tie the score at 5.
After David DuCote walked to start the inning and Nick Well was hit by a pitch, Riley hit a sacrifice fly to right, advancing the runners to second and third. A wild pitch scored DuCote, making it 5-3.
Boyd then drew a walk, and Nick Collins lined a single to right, scoring Wells and Boyd and making it a 5-5 game.
In the top of the sixth, however, Pasco-Hernando sent eight batters to the late, scoring five runs to go ahead 10-5.
The Eagles cut the deficit to 10-7 in the bottom of the eighth. Drew Howard smashed a leadoff double, Chris Johnson was hit by a pitch, and Jack Burke reached first on an infield single to load the bases. Howard scored on DuCote’s sacrifice fly, and Johnson crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Wells.
Starting pitcher Jake Curry (0-1) allowed five runs on five hits, walking one and striking out three in two innings.
Chris Johnson went one-for-three with two walks.
DuCote also walked twice, scored a run, drove in a run, and stole a base.
Collins drove in two runs, scored a run, and drew two walks.
Jakob Hines doubled in two at-bats.
The Eagles (1-2) hit the road Friday for a 4 p.m. game at Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne.
