City of Lakeland, FL – Government Commission recognized Lakeland Fire Department this morning at the Commission Meeting for receiving the 2021 Florida Fire Chiefs’ Association (FFCA) Award of Excellence in Firefighter Safety, Health and Wellness.
This award is a prestigious honor and acknowledges the extensive accomplishments attained in cancer prevention, mental wellness, health and physical fitness, and firefighter safety at emergency scenes.#Firefighting is a dangerous profession, and growing research has shown job-related exposures cause serious illnesses such as cancer and heart disease.
Additionally, firefighters face some of the most challenging situations on scene and do it with courage, but this can have devastating consequences to their mental health. #LFD has worked diligently to bring awareness and change for the men & women in our organization and the industry as a whole.
