The Lakeland Magic, NBA G League affiliate of the Orlando Magic, defeat the Texas Legends 112-105 on Friday at the RP Funding Center.
Neither team could gain momentum in the first few minutes of the game. There was a total of three lead changes before Magic guard Jay Scrubb caught fire scoring 12 first-quarter points. Magic guard R.J. Hampton came off the bench for his second game in the G-league. Hampton had four first-quarter points helping the Magic lead 32-24 at the end of the quarter.
At the beginning of the second quarter, the Magic could do no wrong as they went on a nine-three run. It wasn’t until the 4:47 mark that the Legends regained the lead after two back-to-back flagrant fouls by the Magic. Texas Legends guard Tyler Hall was red hot with 15 second-quarter points, the Legends led 57-64 at the half.
The Legends continued to build on their momentum in the third quarter. Legends guard Tyler Dorsey had 10 points in the third quarter helping Texas retain their lead of 90-80.
The fourth quarter was all Magic as they started with a 21-6 run. The Magic had gained their first lead since the second quarter with 7:30 remaining in the game. Despite the Legend’s effort, the Magic were able to seal a win finishing off the showcase with a sweep at home. “It felt great to win two in a row after a four-game losing streak. At the end of the day we have to work hard and come together,” Simi Shittu said.
Simi Shittu added another double-double scoring 22 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. R.J. Hampton had 19 points and six assists off the bench.
Tyler hall finished with a game-high 24 points for the Legends.
