The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the death of Brandon Roy Moran, a 39-year-old Polk City resident who was killed in an early morning crash on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

Incident Details

  • Time and Location: The crash occurred around 3:00 a.m. on Fussell Road, approximately two miles north of Polk City.
  • The Initial Crash: Investigators believe Moran was operating a Polaris Sportsman 400 ATV when he lost control and was thrown from the vehicle. The ejection caused him to strike his head on the pavement.
  • The Second Vehicle: While Moran was lying in the roadway, he was struck by an unknown passing vehicle.
  • Outcome: First responders found Moran deceased at the scene with severe head trauma.

Investigation Status

The driver of the second vehicle did not stop and has not been identified. Detectives noted that because of the time of night and the circumstances of the initial crash, the driver may not have realized they struck a person.

Fussell Road was closed for approximately four hours following the incident. The PCSO Traffic Homicide Unit is continuing to investigate why Moran originally lost control of the ATV and is seeking information regarding the second vehicle involved.
